Thunderbird 5 isn’t used to flying rightside up.

I gather that little wing flick from the plane front left before things went sketchy had something to do with it... something about busting up the airflow?

Thunderbird 1 twitched first, maybe a gust of wind. Thunderbird 3 reacted, but held his position (mostly), Thunderbird (whatever) on the right overreacted. He may have also looked away for a second and then saw a canopy full of wingtip when he looked back and then just noped it out of there.

Yeah looked like the point dude straightened up, then the 2 to the left of him, then the guy to immediate right, thus causing far right dude to decide discretion was the better part of not dying.

Think about what For Sweden posted: The solo pilots should stay solo. The diamond four in the center, who always fly together, handled it quite well and stayed mostly in formation. The solo guys usually fly solo (duh) and do high speed passes. The one of the left eased out some, the guy on the right got the hell out of Dodge.

I’d like to hear the crew chatter at that moment. Like WTF?

Honestly, probably the right call. If there’s a chance everything is going to shit, better to get out of the way, both to avoid danger and to give more room for everyone else to maneuver if needed. It’s not like they can’t reform quickly once it’s all sorted.

There may have been no chatter at all. No time for it.

Oh, I’m not faulting the guy. Hell, they probably train for that. But I think it is telling that the diamond stayed mostly intact , while the solos got out of it.

I mean it probably makes sense move more cautiously in the middle, since you’ve got people you can hit all around. The pilots on the side have plenty of room to increase their spacing.

On the radio, the Angels are constantly listening to the leader and what he’s doing/about to do, so they can react appropriately. I would expect it to be the same for the T-Birds.

You think they’re switching pilots out per city? This seems more rapid city per city than even the air show circuit. Then again it is just fly overs with no maneuvers.

The team is the team, so same guys. Yes, they’re just flying mostly straight, but there’s also a lot of travel time and refueling. So it can still be tiring.

As a 14 year Air Force veteran, I'd just like to say: the Thunderbirds can't hold a candle to the Blue Angels.

Better to have an abundance of caution.  I agree.
